Happy Halloween!!!

Yay, Happy Halloween everyone! I hope everyone is having a spooktacular day, my Halloween has been awesome so far. This morning, Shane and I ran the Monster Dash 5K in Minneapolis, so much fun! If you're a regular reader, you know that my husband and I did the Couch to 5K program to train for this race, what better goal than a fun costumed race on Halloween? Since this is Minnesota it was pretty cold but I warmed up pretty quickly once we started running. It was great seeing everyone's costumes, there were a lot of creative people out today! I went as a black cat (and yes, there were tons of other black cats in the race) and my husband went as a ninja (although his ninja mask came off a few minutes into the race :)

Overall, the race was awesome and I'd totally do it again! Oh, and the scariest part of the whole thing? Port-o-potties!!!
Have an awesome Halloween everyone :)!!!!!!

Try Handmade

If you're following me on Twitter or are friends with me on Facebook then you've already heard this :) But I'm excited so I'm sharing here too! My Skull Pins are on the front page of Try Handmade right now! If you haven't heard of Try Handmade, it's a site that showcases handmade goods and hopes to encourage people to spend their money on handmade items rather than mass produced stuff. Cool, eh? It's an idea that I love, I'm trying to make a switch to buying handmade whenever possible and Etsy is great for that, to me there's nothing better than supporting people like me who are working hard to support themselves and their families with their creative talent.
So here's a question for you dear readers, what's the last handmade thing you've bought. One of the latest things I purchased on Etsy is this awesome Zombie Knitting bookmark - love it!

Ghosts of Halloween Past
Halloween is almost here, yay! This year is going to be extra special because I'll be running my first 5K at the Monster Dash :) Over the years I've posted some tutorials and patterns for fun Halloweenie things so I thought it would be a great time to revisit some of them!
First, a tuturial for making some cute Halloween coasters:

I'm Baaack!
Eeep, sorry it's been so long since I've posted here, October has been unusually busy, we've gone on two trips (one up to Duluth and one up to visit my parents) and that's really messed with any sort of routine we halfway pretend to keep up :)
On the non-Etsy craft front, things have been pretty slow, I can count on one hand the days I've had time to knit. So as you can imagine, I don't have much to show for myself!
In Etsy shop news, all of my Halloween items are 50% until they're gone (or until a few days after Halloween and I yank them out of the shop) so if you need any Halloweenie cuteness, now is the time to pounce! Here are a few things I have left:
-Have a great weekend everyone!

Swappy Goodness!
Swaps are so fun! I haven't participated in one for a while but I couldn't resist the Halloween Vegan swap on Ravelry. It's always fun putting together a nice package for someone and who doesn't like getting goodies in the mail? My super awesome package arrived today, check it out, I totally scored!
Awesome, right? She even knitted something for me, a super cool skull bag! It's such a cool and thoughtful package, there's chocolate, candy, a cool cookie cutter, yarn, a runner's care package, and so much more :)

The One Where I Talk About Running
It always amazes me when I'm able to do something so physical, I know this is true for a lot of people who used to be very overweight, but I sometimes still think of myself that way and think that I must have the same physical limitations I used to have. In high school I got to my top weight, about 265 pounds and was about as out of shape as possible. As soon as I graduated I started to work to lose the weight, I had a treadmill in my room and I walked at least 5 times a week. Eventually, I lost the weight and now live in the 135 - 140 pound range.
But now I'm a runner! I might not be a very fast runner, but I'm a runner :) I'm really looking forward to the 5K on Halloween, I'm not 100% sure what my costume will be, I'm thinking black cat though - I can wear my black running pants and black zip up running top and then crochet some ears, probably a variation of my bear headband. I'll probably do some nose and whisker makeup too and maybe some black fingerless mitts, good thing those are so quick to make!

October!!!

October 1st is also World Vegetarian Day, so happy that too!
Last night I also made a batch of Swedish Vegan Thumbprint Cookies using a recipe from the Veg Bitch blog:
We used both strawberry and blueberry jam and they were delicious!
