Kitchener Helper
I got some really cool stuff this Christmas (including a new camera that's way smarter than I am, and that one day I'll figure out how to use) but not much in the way of knitting goodies. That's because I actually didn't ask for much this year, I didn't really need new yarn or anything, but when I saw this adorable Kitchener Stitch Reminder Tag on Etsy, I knew I had ask my husband for one! Even though I've knit 5 million socks, I still can't memorize the kitchener stitch and always have to look at the instructions at least to get started.
Isn't it adorable? This is the other side:
Now I don't have to search around for a book when I need to finish off a toe, I just have to reach into my notions bag! This super useful tag is made by Karat Stix on Etsy, there are tons of really cute things in their shop, from needle gauges to sock blockers, I'll definitely be ordering from them at some point :) And they even included a cute little extra in the order:

Super cute and sort of funny since my socks have zero sheepy content :)

Pink Soybean Socks

The pattern is the Soybean Socks by Christabel Seneque and it's a free Ravelry download. I'm loving them so far, the pattern is awesome and very well written - and it even has charts that don't confuse me! The color of the yarn is a little pukey, but the pattern is so fun to knit that I can forgive a little puke :) I'm using Panda Soy in the Provence colorway which would be really pretty if it didn't have a weird green in it, a brown or even another shade of pink would have been much prettier.

FO: Pumpkin Waffle Socks

These socks were in progress for quite a while, not because they were hard but because late November and December were insanely busy, especially with the Etsy stuff. A good kind of busy, but still busy :) Anyway, I finally finished the socks last night while watching the new episode of Doctor Who. I really love how they came out, I'm wearing them right now and they're nice and toasty. The pattern is the awesomeness that is the Blueberry Waffle Socks and the yarn is Berroco's Comfort DK in filbert - 2 balls.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

Christmas Crafting, I declare you done!
Yay, I finished the two handmade things I made for my husband! One was finished last night with the help of the lovely and talented Miss Kathy, queen of crochet awesomeness:
It's a cute little amigurumi Cthulhu! My husband asked for one specifically a while ago so of course I had to make one :) I used the pattern from the book Creepy Cute Crochet and I really can't say that I love the way the pattern was written. The end product is super cute but some of the instructions are super confusing, I had to have help with the wings because they totally stumped me. But it's done and ready to gift so yay!
Today I finished the socks I've been working on for the husband:
My husband is awesome and absolutely loves handknit socks so I'm more than happy to knit them for him. This is another basic pair of socks in Panda Cotton in the Muir Woods colorway. And with that, Christmas crafting is done! How about you guys, any last minute frantic crafting going on?

Fun and Easy Yarn Wreaths!
With Christmas on the way whether we're ready or not, I was thinking the other night that we needed some more decorations. We don't have much for decorations and I don't really want to spend heaps of money so I decided to make wreaths from stuff I already had. And what do I have LOTS of? Yarn! And cardboard, lots and lots of cardboard.
So I scavenged around the kitchen to find some plates and bowls of various sizes to trace circles and cut them out from cardboard - the cardboard was mined from a shoebox, a used Priority Mail flat rate box, and the side of a cracker box. This was the hardest part of the project, cutting through cardboard can be a bit difficult, especially the thicker stuff. After that was done, I just wrapped yarn around the wreath shape to cover all of the cardboard, easy peasy! I used leftover ribbon from gifts to hang them on the wall. Husband even helped out, he cut one of the wreaths out for me and put the nails in the wall (that part was pretty amusing, we're both hilariously un-handy). Here's the first one I made, it's my favorite because it's just so kitchy and fun (and yes, our walls are crazy bright, the white pics are taken on poster board):
Then I made a fuzzy green one, it's husband's fave:
And finally, an icy blue wreath:
Fun, cute, cheap, and easy to make, gotta love it! And they come together fast, especially if you watch your favorite holiday special while you're making them :)

My Bag is in the new Knitty!!!

Cool, right? I have a few of these made and they're not all listed in the shop, once they're gone, they're gone since this is a super duper rare and discontinued fabric (you have no idea what I would do for a bolt of this stuff). Eeee, but anyway, so exciting!!!!

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are one of the few things that we only make around the holidays (gingerbread men fall under that category too) but they really are very yummy. Last year I veganized a Martha Stewart recipe, but this year I tried the crinkle recipe in Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar and they came out super awesome! I totally recommend that book by the way, sooo many awesome recipes to try, and it would make a really great gift as well.

FOs and Cookies
Look, I finished stuff!
A slacker hat for my dad (sorry for the sucky picture!):
The pattern is my own and I used some Vanna's choice in chocolate brown and blue, I made one for my dad last year in brown and green and he loved it! I also finished a pair of charity mittens:
They're made from some Caron Simply soft in pink, very cute! I used a free pattern from Afghans for Afghans, very simple.
And finally, the world's most un-gorgeous gingerbread men:
Delicious but not very pretty, my husband and I are not exactly awesome cookie decorators ;) But they are a ton of fun to make and very yummy, we always use Isa's recipe from the PPK and make at least one batch a season.
