Coconut Bliss - Review and Giveaway!

Ok, I've been super excited about this review and giveaway for a while, it's for one of my favorite things in the world, Coconut Bliss ice cream! I've been eating vegan ice cream for decades - not because I've been vegan that long, I've only been vegan for nine years, but because it tastes good. Over the years it's been fun to watch vegan ice cream grow up and become more sophisticated with tons of flavors, bases, and new companies. My favorites have changed over the years but Coconut Bliss is by far the best ice cream I've ever had for several reasons - it's delicious, the texture is perfect, and it's healthier for you than most other ice creams. The ice cream is made from a base of organic coconut and agave (a sweetener that comes from the agave plant). But just because it's made from coconut doesn't mean it has an overpowering coconut flavor. In flavors like Mint Galactica and Chocolate Peanut Butter, the coconut flavor is extremely subtle.

With the free coupons that Coconut Bliss sent for me so I could review the ice cream (this is not the first time I've had their ice cream, I've bought it many many times before) I picked up a pint in Chocolate Peanut Butter and Cherry Amaretto. I'd never had the Chocolate Peanut Butter and had only had the cherry once before. First, the Chocolate:

Holy cow, this stuff was awesome! My husband is big time into the combo of chocolate and peanut butter so he was in heaven. I was pretty blown away too, it was super smooth and the peanut butter tasted like the best natural peanut butters out there, love it!

The Cherry Amaretto is one of my faves (my #1 fave is Mint Galactica!) - I love cherries and ice cream so it's perfect. My husband however, usually hates all things cherry but he loves this flavor too, that's because it's natural cherry, not red # whatever like some ice creams use. This baby has real chunks of delicious cherries swirled in, so delicious and refreshing.

Ok, you guys ready to win a pint for yourselves? Coconut Bliss was generous enough to send me two coupons to give away to my lovely readers - so two winners will receive a coupon for a free pint in any flavor! Use it wherever they carry Coconut Bliss (Target and Whole Foods are good bets, but you can also check their website for more locations).

Ok, there are 6 chances to win, none of the entries are mandatory and please leave a separate comment for each entry. Winners will be chosen by random number generator, US and Canada entries only (those are the countries where Coconut Bliss is available). Also, make sure I have a way of contacting you if you win (etsy shop name, Ravelry name, twitter... whatever you're comfortable with leaving in a comment). Here are the entries:

1. Let me know which flavor of Coconut Bliss you think you'd like to try the most.

2. Follow Coconut Bliss on Twitter.

3. "Like" Coconut Bliss on Facebook.

4. Follow this blog.

5. Follow Vegancraftasic on Twitter.

6. Tweet, blog, or post on Facebook about this giveaway.

FO: Purple BBQ Ribs!

I finished another pair of socks, yay!

Purple BBQ Ribs Socks

This is my third pair of socks using the BBQ Ribs pattern and I love them - I'll love them even more in the winter, I used Berroco Comfort Sock (in the English Garden colorway), a nice cozy yarn that's nice and toasty in winter boots. These socks have been my go-to easy relaxing project lately, and believe me, I've needed them :)

The pattern is available on Etsy now too for those not on Ravelry!

So what are you guys working on?

Arthur Cookies

Yup, as in Arthur the Aardvark:

Last night I was absolutely in need of cookies. Fast cookies. Cookies that required very little work on my part. So since we were at Target anyway, I decided to pick up a box of Cherrybrook Kitchen's Arthur Chocolate Chips Cookie Mix.  I've never tried anything from Cherrybrook Kitchen before but I've wanted to for a while, their big thing is all natural foods that are also allergy friendly - love it! This box of cookie mix was around $5.60 and made about a dozen generous sized cookies, and boy were they delicious! I'm not much of a baking mix kind of gal but I'd totally get another box of this stuff to have on hand. They were super easy to make too, all you have to add is margarine (I like Earth Balance, their margarines are vegan and non-hydrogenated) and water and then form them and bake them.  Mine took about 9 minutes longer to cook than the box called for, but I made mine larger too, so just be sure to keep an eye on them in the oven.  Yum!

Tie Dye Bathworks - Made in Minnesota!

Ok, you guys should know by now that I love me some handmade goodies right?  Well, one of my favorite things to buy handmade is soap, there's just something extra luxurious about a nice bar of hand crafted soapy goodness.  Recently, the lovely Etsy shop Tie Dye Bathworks, based in Red Wing Minnesota, sent me a bar of soap in my choice of scent to review on the blog.  It was a tough choice because they all sounded awesome but I went with a bar of coconut lime shea butter soap, and boy did I choose wisely!

The soap smells so fresh and clean, but not all overpowering or perfumey like soaps can get.  Even my husband liked the smell and he's not usually a fan of anything scented.  I was also impressed by the size of the bar, very generous, especially with how reasonable her goods are priced.  The most important test of course was hand washing.  It was a lovely treat to wash my hands with this soap after an afternoon of hefting boxes around - my hands are now nice and soft with just a hint of the coconut lime scent, love it!  All in all, I would definitely buy from Tie Dye Bathworks and am very grateful for the free sample.  I should also let you know that she's having a sale in her shop through the 25th of July so be sure to head over and check her out, remember, bath goodies make great gifts (and please let her know you read about her shop on my blog if you decide to purchase something)!  Also, this soap and all of her products are vegan - yay for cruelty free bath products!

Kitty Notecard Giveaway!

Contest is now closed, thanks everyone for entering!

Today's Etsy feature and giveaway comes to us from Deborah Julian on Etsy! Deborah's shop features lovley cards and prints made from her original artwork, most of which features adorable kitties! Let's get to know Deborah and her shop - and read on to learn how you can win a set of assorted notecards:

1. How long has your Etsy shop been open and what inspired you to start selling on Etsy?

My Etsy shop opened in February. As a photographer I am always looking for places to sell my art work. I am also a cat lover who has been making cards from photos of my cats for family and friends for many years. I heard about Etsy about two years ago and finally decided it was time to open a shop. I started my Etsy shop with my cat images in mind but have started to add more of my fine art prints. I think my two bodies of work go well together.

2. How do you fit time to create into your day?

I work a day job so I have to be really organized with my time. I work on my images every day even if only for a short period of time. I'm delighted when I have an entire day to devote to working on my images. Of course my cats insist that I take frequent breaks to play with them. When I first opened my Etsy shop I was spending a lot of time promoting my shop in the Forums and on other websites. I finally realized that it is important to spend as much time creating the work as I do promoting it.

3. Do you have any fun hobbies outside of your shop?

I love to travel and visit new places. I live in New York and enjoy going to art museums and the theater whenever I can.

Deborah can also be found on myshopify, and Facebook.

Ok, ready to win a set of Assorted Cat Notecards? These would be so great for notes to friends or as a gift for a cat lover in your life, right? Ok, there are 7 possible entries, only the first one is mandatory, and please leave a separate comment for each entry. Also make sure I have a way to contact you in you win (etsy shop name, ravelry name, twitter name, or e-mail written out YOU at There dot com all work) Entries:

Bridal Shower - Grown Up Lady Party!

This past Friday I was lucky enough to attend a bridal shower for my beautiful friend Kelaine whose getting married this Fall (I'm going and there's going to be vegan cake!) The shower took place at my other beautiful friend Kathy's home and she and some of the other ladies did such a great job decorating, Martha would be proud :)

There was great food (Kathy even made vegan parfaits - geez I have great friends!) There was also some amazing mango salsa to be had, and I brought some mini chocolate cupcakes and sparkling pink lemonade. Here's a picture of me, Jen, and Kathy - see, I got to wear my wedding dress again! Good think I didn't wear a big poofy white wedding dress or I might have looked a little on the crazy side:

The gift opening was so much fun to watch, we're such a creative bunch of ladies and there were some amazing presents given to the lady of honor. My gift came from J Lynn Creation on Etsy, I got her a cute personalized necklace. This shop was amazing to work with and I highly recommend checking it out if you need a cute gift, the seller was super friendly, the necklace was beautiful, and the shipping was speedy, love it! :

All in all it was such a great time and totally worth every mosquito bite I have right now - even the one on the tip of my finger :)

p.s. all of these great photos were taken by Jen and Flannery!

Namaste you've done it again!

I'm sure I've written about my love of Namaste bags, the awesome (and animal friendly!) knitting bags of happiness and joy! Well, they've just come out with a new bag that I'm absolutely in love with and must make mine at some point hopefully in the not too distant future. It's called the Hip Holster:

So cute and practical! I love my Namaste Zuma bag that my husband bought for me for Christmas two years ago, the quality is amazing and there's so much storage room - perfect for projects on the go. Hip Holster, you will be mine soon! Now what color should I get....

I've loved her shop for quite a while - she has a great variety of handmade goodies, from jewelry to home decor and more. Let's get to know Starr and her shop and how you can enter to win your choice of any item $15 or under from Starrlight Jewelry:

1. How long have you been selling on Etsy and what inspired you to open your shop?

I have been an etsy seller since December 2007. I started running my etsy shop
full time in May of 2008 after closing down my eBay store for good.

2. How do you fit creative time into your day?

It is hard. Besides running my etsy shop I also work consignment for 3 boutiques
worldwide, own an artfire shop, am building my own .com, run the VeganEtsy Team, home-school my daughter and I run a small out of pocket cat sanctuary. I generally try to find a few hours every week to sit down and have time to create but sometimes it is not always possible. Right now I am caring for 2 disabled adult cats and 17 orphaned kittens!

3. You are the captain of the Vegan Etsy Team, tell us a bit about the team.

VeganEtsy team was founded for all the vegan crafters of Etsy to have a place to talk, share ideas and form a community of like minded minds. All members of the team are Vegans that maintain Vegan shops. By searching our team tag "VeganEtsy Team" on etsy, it also gives vegan shoppers a way to buy vegan products that are made by vegans. You can learn more about the team and Veganism in general by visiting our website

4. Do you have any creative hobbies outside of your shop?

My other main passion, writing, is tied into my shop. Many of my items I create
poems and short stories for their descriptions.

Interweave Crochet: Summer 2010

While I've been crocheting a bit longer than I've been knitting, I feel like my skill level with a hook hasn't grown nearly as much as it should have by now. Maybe it's because I'm drawn to quick and easy crochet projects - speed is what I really love about crochet. But my lack of experience with complex crochet doesn't stop me from dreaming and Interweave Crochet is always good for a bit of eye candy! Here are some of my faves from the new issue:

Midsummer Night’s Shawl by Lisa Naskrent:

Summer's Day Placemats by Kim Guzman:

Moonglow Vee by Mari Lynn Patrick:

What are your faves from this issue?
